Most metal service centers can process an order. Few do it with the speed, precision, and communication that prevents problems downstream.
At Mead Metals, we call our difference The Mead Edge — four commitments that shape every quote, every order, and every interaction: speed, confidence built-in, fewer headaches downstream, and proactive partnership.
This is how we've operated for over 60 years — and why manufacturers across North America keep coming back.
Your plant needs metal. The line is down, one part broke, and everything has stopped. But you don't just need material. You need to know it's available, the spec is feasible, and it can ship in time to keep production moving.
It's not the time to shop around. You're calling the supplier who picks up, knows their inventory, and gives you a straight answer on lead time. Fast.
Mead is built for exactly that call. With an average quote response time of four hours, you get answers when it counts.
You landed an aerospace job and the spec requires AS9100-certified material. Your usual supplier handles standard stock just fine, but this order is different.
The customer isn't going to take your word for it, and neither will their quality team. You need a supplier whose certifications are already in place and whose documentation holds up under scrutiny.
Mead has held AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015 certification since 1998. The paperwork is ready before you ask for it. And when a compliance requirement comes up mid-order, you're not scrambling. You have documentation you can actually use.
Your customer spec called for tight tolerances and your supplier said they could hit it. The material arrived within their stated range, but not within yours. Now you're explaining to engineering why the parts aren't holding.
Mead slits to a tolerance of ±0.005 inches. That's not a talking point. That's the number your engineers can build around. And when Mead handles edge conditioning, leveling, or cut-to-length before the material ships, that secondary operation disappears from your floor.
With Mead, your team runs the job, not the prep work.
In the past, you might have placed an order and heard nothing. No confirmation, no update, no heads up that the lead time shifted. Only to find out the delivery was delayed when it didn't show up.
You shouldn't have to chase your supplier for information that affects your production schedule.
Mead communicates before you have to ask. When a last-minute spec question comes in, you're not waiting on a "We'll look into it." You're talking to someone who actually knows the answer. Mead's sales team has nearly 200 years of combined metals experience. They're the metal experts you have in your back pocket.

The three words to describe working with Mead: quality, relationships, and service.

Mead stocks stainless steel (301, 302/304), beryllium copper, phosphor bronze, brass, cold rolled steel (1008/1010), copper, and spring steel (annealed and tempered) in sheet, coil, and foil forms.
Mead is the nation’s third-largest distributor of beryllium copper.
Mead is specifically positioned to serve manufacturers who need low-volume specialty metals — from small test runs to full production orders. Our order minimums are competitive where large distributors charge exorbitant minimum fees.
Our Minimum Order Quantities enable us to suit metal product orders of all sizes. Every metal product we provide has its own MOQ, and for tempered spring steel, our MOQ is 10–12 lbs. While we can, and will, support orders for quantities smaller than this, the minimum lot charge will remain the same for any quantities ordered at, or below, a metal’s MOQ. Additional variables apply depending on material thickness, width, and additional processing.
Every Mead order ships with full documentation as standard practice, including material test reports, certifications, and traceability records. You shouldn't have to ask for paperwork that should come with every order. At Mead, it does.
Mead is ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 certified and has been since 1998. Full traceability documentation, including MTRs, heat and lot numbers, and chain of custody records, ships with every order. When your customer or quality team asks for documentation, you'll have it.
